If Your Dress is StraplessStrapless dresses are now ultra-popular and perfect for showing off toned arms and shoulders. If you're wearing a strapless dress, focus on exercises for your triceps, biceps and pectoral muscles, as well as your upper back. Pick one to two exercises for each body part. Start with an exercise for your chest, then move to back, biceps, triceps and shoulders, in that order. Repeat the set to really push your muscles. A good exercise for your biceps is the standard bicep curl. Holding a dumbbell in each hand, stand with your feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent. Holding your stomach muscles taut and your arms down by your sides, slowly curl the dumbbells toward your shoulders. Lower it slowly back to the starting position, making sure not to lock your elbows. Repeat 10 times.
If Your Dress is Form-FittingIf you are wearing a sheath dress or a tight A-line wedding gown, your midsection will be on full display. Tone and smooth the torso with "The Twist." Standing with your feet hip-width apart, either imagine holding a ball between your thighs or actually place a small medicine ball there. Squeeze your thighs tightly and contract your core muscles. Clasp your fingers together behind your head, and keeping your chest high, slowly twist your upper body to the left and then to the right. Keep it slow and controlled because the exercise won't do any good if you're using momentum to propel your movements.
If Your Dress has a Low BackIf you are daring to bare your back, focus your attention on strengthening both the upper and lower muscles. For an upper-back workout, try a one-arm row. Stand next to a bench or coffee table and place your left knee and hand on the bench so your body is parallel to the bench. Bend over so your torso is parallel to the ground. Grasp a dumbbell in your right hand and slowly pull it up, bending your elbow, until the weight is in line with your hip. Lower it back to starting position and repeat 10 times.
